Text/Image overlay on VPU data using IPU

Hi,

I want to overlay text on the data returned by VPU.

When I play AVC data the mxc_vpu_test.out always outputs NV12.

Also when I use the above test case with IPU_PATH, I do not see any video on screen.

It works only with V4L2.

DirectFB cannot perform overlay unless this video is rendered as ARGB.

Please suggest a solution to get overlays working on IMX6Q using DirectFB or any other API providing direct text overlay API.

So far, I understand that only V4L2 it is the only implemented sink that we have in the i.MX6 BSP . are you using Gstreamer? or what are you using or want to use to play the video.

As of now I am not using gstreamer, just working with VPU API test case modified for my experiments.

But I want to explore all available options before I can pick one.

Please suggest if gstreamer-imx plugins are stable and complete enough for such operations. If not what are

other options available for me.
