I understand that two cameras cannot be connected to a single MIPI interface using a deserializer.
However, are there any proven deserializer solutions for connecting a single/two camera to a single/two CSI/MIPI interfaces?
Is it possible to use, for example, the MAX96714 ?

Hi all!

We are using the i.MX 8M Plus in our Digital Video Registrator. We are currently tasked with modifying the design to connect at least two (4 better) cameras using SerDes chips. In researching this, I see that connecting the DS90UB960 or DS90UB954 might be problematic because the processor does not support virtual channels.
Is there any information or positive experience regarding the connection of other deserializers (from TI, Analog Devices, THine Electronics, etc.)?

Best regards,
Serge

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in NXP Semiconductor products,

As you mention, serializers are not available for i.MX 8M Plus due to the lack of virtual channel, there is a reference for i.MX 8 series processors using i.MX8QM and i.MX8QXP, i.MX 95 supports VC and has a serializer reference as well.

That’s very strange. I personally saw and held in my hands a solution based on the THCV242A + iMXMP —though I don't recall whether it connected one camera or two...

Hi @sfatyushkin since the platform doesn't support virtual channel, you would only be able to stream from a single camera at a time per CSI/MIPI port. For example two deserializers each connected to one CSI/MIPI port. Here is a resource on GMSL if you wanna take a look.

If you don't need continuous streaming or can tolerate a lower capture rate from all four sensors, another potential approach could be to implement a custom driver that switches between camera streams, starting and stopping each sensor as needed. Ideally, you'd also need a way to synchronize this with a userspace application to ensure frames are captured and associated with the correct camera.

Best regards,
Daniel Gonzalez

Embedded SW Engineer at RidgeRun
Developers wiki: https://developer.ridgerun.com
Website: www.ridgerun.com
