My RT1052 board uses the IS42S16160 32MB SDRAM, which works perfectly. However, after replacing it with the IS42S16400 8MB SDRAM, it fails to work properly. What configurations need to be changed?

You need to change the memsize of the device on the sdramconfig variable. This on the case that the only difference between the two is only the size, if there are more differences on timing then the rest of parameters need to be tuned according the datasheet specifications.
Is the pinout of both similar?

Best regards,
Omar
