&lt;P&gt;I do not think that the MC56F817 is a correct part number, pls check and give us the correct part number.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;I suppose that you use CodeWarrior for DSP56800E ver8.3 tools to watch variable, in the case, you have to set a break point. When the cpu runs to the break point location, the cpu will halts, then you can see the variable. In conclusion, only after the CPU halts can you watch the variable.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;If you do want to watch variable while the CPU is running, you have to use dedicated Freemaster tools, this is Freemaster tools link:&lt;/P&gt;
