Thanks for the update. Just be aware that if you have to reformat your hard drive (perhaps because of a system crash), the Disk ID changes, and you'l have to rehost your license. Since you've already done that once, doing it again should not be a problem.

---Tom

Codewarrior with USB dongle on 64-bit Windows 7?

I am presently using CW for S12 v. 5.1 and for HCS08 v. 6.3 on Win-XP. I have a CW_Pro_NL-licence with a USB dongle. Now I am getting a new computer with 64-bit Windows 7; and the question is, will my CodeWarriors still work? I have during the last years read a lot of comments here on the forum regarding Windows 7; but I haven't found any clear info if it is possible and how to do it in that case. On the CodeWarrior main page I also see this worrying info: "Please note: USB dongle license configuration not supported on 64 bit Windows 7" .

Can somebody give a clear reply; what steps must I follow to continue working with v. 5.1 and 6.3 on 64-bit Windows 7?

Sten

I've the same issue. The dongle has been recongnzed with windows, the codewarrior do not see it.

I'm trying to find a workarround using the compatibility mode

Like it says, the dongle option is NOT supported for Win 7 64-bit.

There are work-arounds, but they involve changing your license type.

Option 1: Switch to a CodeWarrior floating license.

Pro: Gives same flexibility as dongle.

Con: You have to set up a license server, which usually creates headaches for the IT people because they have to unblock a specific IP port.

Con: If you can't get a network connection, you can't use CodeWarrior.

Option 2: Buy a USB-to-Ethernet interface module, and tie the CodeWarrior license to its MAC.

Pro: Gives same flexibility as a dongle, and you get Ethernet connectivity in the bargain.

Pro: Proven to work, and does not require a network connection-- just plug the module into the USB port.

Con: Have to buy the interface module, unless you are using one already.

Hope this helps.

---Tom

Sorry for the late reply, but here is what I did:

CW for HC(X)12 v.5.1: I rehosted the compiler to my disk-ID (instead of the USB-dongle) -> I can continue working on this single machine. Your advice to buy an USB_to_Ethernet-module is very clever, will allow me to use CW on several machines by taking the module along.

CW for HC08 v. 6.3: This version does not install on Win7, so I have installed CW10.2 instead. But since I use this compiler so seldom, I most probably will restart my computer to Win XP when needed (easier than to transfer the old projects from 6.3 to 10.2).

Sten
