Hi,

I have just purchased the DEVKIT-S12G128 and need help to download code to it using Windows 7 and CodeWarrior v5.9.0.

I have installed the P&E Drivers v12.4.0.0 and connected the DEVKIT-S12G128 to the PC using the supplied USB cable. The demonstration code (flashing LED) starts running on the DEVKIT-S12G128. Below is a screenshot of Device Manager:

I wrote and built without errors a short assembly program to flash the LED. I selected "P&E USB BDM Multilink" as per the instructions in the "SOFTWARE INTEGRATION GUIDE (SWIG)":

When I press the "Debug" icon the "True-Time Simulator & Real-Time Debugger" screen says "Unable to open specified port" and the "P&E HC(S)12 Connection Manager v2.74.00.01" screen says "Undetected. Disconnect/Connect USB cable. Click Refresh List". This does not work. It also has a link to "FAQ #29", which advises to uninstall and install the P&E Drivers, which I did. This did not work either.

Please help!

Dan

I have tried a number of things, including the patch, and still cannot download to the board. P&E believe there may be an issue with CodeWarrior v5.1 and suggest I install CodeWarrior v10.x and try again.

I installed CodeWarrior v5.1 because it said to do so in the NXP Software Integration Guide in the Documentation section of the DEVKIT-S12G128. I hope I will be able to install CodeWarrior v10.x on my system after installing CodeWarrior v5.1. Do I need to uninstall CodeWarrior v5.1 first?

Dan

Hi Alice,

Thank you for your reply. I tried with a 12V 1A power supply to the barrel connector (with the jumper on the board set to 3.3V and also with the jumper set to USB) after installing the patch, without success. The CodeWarrior version I am using is 5.9.0.

P&E have said:

"I think this may be an issue of OSBDM not being supported on CW5.1. What you should try is installing
CW10.x software from NXP and see if that works with your OSBDM connection.

OSBDM for Codewarrior 5.1 was not managed by P&E, so the design and firmware may not follow our API
and specification to work with our DLLs, both old and the new patched versions.

If you had our multilink or cyclone hardware and attached it to the 6-pin BDM header on the board then you can use our DLLs to connect to the target"

I don't know what else to try. Perhaps I can install CodeWarrior on another laptop and try again? I am a hobbyist and cannot justify the additional expense of purchasing the multilink or cyclone hardware. I am considering returning the DEVKIT-S12G128 for a refund.

Please advise.

Dan

Hello Daniel,

- This OSBDM software is produced by P&E Micro , so if you said it doesn't support CW5.1,

maybe it really doesn't support .

- Sorry the CW10.x doesn't support this chip.

-Sorry I have not this board, so I can't test it on my side. And there is a plate about OSBDM on community :OSBDM and TBDML you can ask your question here to check whether it can work well .

There is a similar question CW5.1 with P&E obsolete USB Multilink debugger.

Radek said he use Win7 64 bit system ,

So on one hand you can ask on OSBDM and TBDML , on the other hand , you can borrow

others' debugger .

BR

Alice

What a relief! No patch was required, and I set the jumper on the board to 3.3V and provided 12V to the barrel connector.

I downloaded CodeWarrior for HCS12(X) v5.2 from the link below:

CodeWarrior® Development Tools Suite - Special|NXP

The IDE version of the CodeWarrior I just downloaded is 5.9.0 and the P&E drivers were automatically installed. Interestingly, the IDE version of the CodeWarrior I installed on my laptop about a month ago is also 5.9.0, but the drivers weren't automatically installed (I downloaded them from the P&E website and installed them later). I can't remember from were I installed CodeWarrior on my laptop, it may have been from a link in a user guide.

I will now uninstall CodeWarrior on my laptop and install it from the link above and post the result.

Dan

Great, it is now working on my laptop too! Again no patch was required and I set the jumper on the board to 3.3V, but this time provided 9V to the barrel connector, and was able to download code to the DEVKIT-S12G128 without any problems!

So the problem must have been the version of CodeWarrior I was using. I see that even though the IDE versions are the same, the version of the CodeWarrior Development Studio that wasn't working was 5.1, build 10221. The working version is 5.2, build 151201.

I've never been so happy to see an LED blink!

Thank you for your help Alice.

Regards,

Daniel
