where is the debugger in 5.9.0

I'm trying CodeWarior 5.9.0. When I press F5 (Debug) I see black console window which complains about lack of python. In addition IDE does'n have any settings connected to debugger. Is my version of CW restricted?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

please make sure the F5 key binding with Debug, see attached video.

if your problem still can not be solved, I wonder if it is a system problem, please try to reinstall CW and test it again. please make sure you have admin mode during install and use CW. make sure you have firewall and virus defender disabled during install.

The F5 button is connected to Debug option in my case.

I'm trying to debug code for MPC56xxP. Do I need to install a special simulator or should I try to debug on a target?

My assumption was that some sort of simulator is already included in the CW IDE, looks like I was wrong.

Classic CodeWarrior for MPC 55/56xx does not include a simulator in it. User must connect with a real board.

User can press F5 button to start debugging, or open the in-circuit debugger outside IDE by double click the file 'cw_icdppcnexus.exe', which is under the CW folder:

<CW path>\Freescale\CW for MPC55xx and MPC56xx\pemicro

I was able to create project for the same controller on CW v10.6 (eclipse based). Does this newer version has a simulator or I need to connect to the target anyway?

Eclipse CodeWarrior for MCU doesn't offer e200 Core simulator either.

3-rd Party debuggers may include instruction set simulator (e.g. GreenHills or Lauterbach) .
I'd suggest you to try Green Hills (http://www.ghs.com/products/mpc5500.html)

For most detailed info, please contact Green Hills or Lauterbach directly with your requirement for simulator.
