I refere to this Freescale file relating a so called "Digibutle kit" hardware platform ...

"Compilation and (re)flashing the MCF52231 requires

CodeWarrior Development Studio for Coldfire Architectures, v. 6.3.

CodeWarrior is an integrated development environment which includes a project manager, editor, compiler and debugger.

Version 6.3 is a free download.

At ref. [1] it’s marked as “Updates and Patches” but Elektor has ‘inside information’ that it’s actually a full install version!

The download is about 140 MB. "

Tw of my students need to recompile Eric Gregory's (=>Freescale) Code for the "DigiButler kit" in order to extend the "Digibutle kit" firmware functionality.

The reference [1] as given in the file mentioned above does not land at freescale webpage any more.

Questions 1: is the page titeled "CodeWarrior for Microcontrollers (Classic IDE) - RS08/HC(S)08, ColdFire V1 v6.3 "

wich of the 13 files shall I download in order to get the CW IDE as needed for freescales MCU with part number "MCF52231"

(i.e. the MCU residing at the traget "Digibutle kit")?

Questions 3: Further more, we want to flash the target "Digibutle kit"(=> it supports a 26 pin Coldfire BDM port) with the "USB-ML-UNIVERSAL"; this programmer device I've ordered and (already) received from "P&E Microcumputer Systems, Inc." (=> www.pemicro.com).

Will the "CodeWarrior for Microcontrollers (Classic IDE) - RS08/HC(S)08, ColdFire V1 v6.3 " support the "USB-ML-UNIVERSAL" programmer.

There are several tools products:

Classic version and Eclipse version

The Eclipse version is the new one based on Eclipse IDE.

The last version is CW for MCU V10.6.

It integrates the development tools for the :

ColdFire®, ColdFire+, DSC, Kinetis, Qorivva, RS08, S08 and S12Z architectures

into a single product based on the Eclipse open development platform.

This version is running on Host platforms

Microsoft® Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit (Professional Edition)

Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit (Home Premium Edition and Professional Edition)

Microsoft Windows 8 32-bit and 64-bit (Home Premium Edition and Professional Edition)

The tools you referred are based on Classic IDE (older version).

2 development tools are supporting Coldfire Architectures.

To resume:

Coldfire V1 was not included in CW development tool dedicated to Coldfire Architecture but was included in the S08 development tool.

CW for Coldfire V6.3 is an older version of CW for Coldfie V7.2.

To answer your questions:

1- No. CW for MCU V6.3 and CW for Coldfire V6.3 are 2 different tools.

2- Sorry but I can not access to the link.

3- To avoid problem we recommend to use the last version which is CW for MCU V10.6.

What are all these 13 files to used for ? … and …

… does this IDE package really not support Freescales “"MCF52231" controller?

Reinhold,

The tool you're looking for is CW for MCU V6.3.

This tool is supporting RS08/HC0/HCS08 and Coldfire V1 Architectures.

MCF52231 is a Coldfire V2 and so not supported by CW for MCU V6.3.

What about the 13 files listed here ?

- there is the installer which is the tool base,

- there are 10 service packs.

A service pack must be apply to support a specific processor which was not supported in the tool base.

- 2 software patches including new development tool as compiler update, etc ...

What are the tools supporting MCF52xxx ?

2 solutions:

- Classic version: CW for Coldfire V7.2 or V2.5

for windows OS: CodeWarrior Development Tools for ColdFire|Freescale

for linux OS: CodeWarrior Dev Tools for ColdFire: Linux|Freescale

- Eclipse: CW for MCU V10.6

for windows and linux os: CodeWarrior for Microcontrollers-Eclipse IDE|Freescale

My recommendation.

for new project I recommend you to install and use the Eclipse version.

This was released in 2014 and it's the most recent version.

The Classic version CW for Coldfire V7.2 was released in 2010.
