Hi,

Looking at your HiWave console output and driver information, we can see that the P&E 68HC12 Interface Libraries version 2.62 is currently installed on your PC. This is an older version of the P&E interface driver that does not fully support the USB Multilink Universal hardware you are using. When HiWave tries to establish the BDM connection, the library fails to communicate correctly with the USB-ML-UNIVERSAL, which is why you are seeing "Communication failed (Cable is not connected or has no power!)."

The good news is that your hardware is working fine. Your PC recognises the USB Multilink Universal correctly in Device Manager, and the FSEC register value of 0xBE confirms your MC9S12XEG128 is in the unsecured state, so there are no security-related obstacles here. The issue is purely a software driver version mismatch.

What to do

Please follow these steps to resolve the problem:

Close CodeWarrior and HiWave completely.

Disconnect the USB Multilink Universal from your PC.

Go to the P&E Micro support page and download the patch called "Patch for (S)12(X) 3rd Party Software" from FAQ #211:

https://www.pemicro.com/faqs/faq_view.cfm?id=211

Follow the installation instructions included in the patch (there is a readme file). The patch replaces the P&E interface DLL in your CodeWarrior installation folder.

Reconnect the USB Multilink Universal and reopen HiWave.

Try the connection again.

How to confirm the patch is applied

Once you reconnect and attempt the connection, check the HiWave console window. You should see a line like:

P&E driver version: 68HC12 Interface Libraries Version X.XX

If the version number is higher than 2.62, the patch was applied successfully. Please let us know this new version number along with whether the connection now works.

Next step

We will wait to hear back from you after you apply the patch. If the connection still does not work after the update, please also let us know your exact Windows version, and we will guide you through the next diagnostic step.

Or, you can also try to download last pemicro drivers and reinstall them. I do not know what will help. I had similar issue a few days ago and I just described what I did. Of course standard PC restart.

BTW, I am confused of info CW5.7. The last version is CW v5.2 which is compatible with W11.If you have CW v5.1 then it is not compatible with W11 so download of the version v5.2 is necessary. Loading via HiWave has no limitations. One more info is that this version does not contain support for all derivatives and following patch should be used…

How-to Add missing derivatives to CodeWarrior Classic HCS12(X) 5.2 (Unofficial Method) - NXP Community

Best regards,
