I have taken over a project from a developer who left the company, and one of the first things I am doing is taking inventory of the software licenses we have. I have several original license cards with registration codes on them, and the same number of computers with the software installed. I would like to transfer the license for the one installed on his old office computer to my own, however, I can't figure out which license is being used on which computer. I don't see in in the license.dat file, the About dialog, or the Installed Products dialog.

How can I determine which license (registration code) is being used on an installation of CodeWarrior (HC12 v4.5)?

In the license.dat file, look for an element that say HOSTID=xxxxxx. The host ID ties the copy of CodeWarrior to a specific computer. You can submit a service request to rehost CodeWarrior on the new computer. I would recommend submitting a service request under license issues and provide the CodeWarrior version and type, plus the old and new host ID.

Host IDs are based on either the disk ID or the Ethernet MAC address, so you will have to provide that information for the new computer.

You can find out more about these details on the CodeWarrior Licensing and Registration FAQ.

---Tom
