Hi!

We're trying to establish a USB connection between a Coldfire MCF5272 processor and a PC running Windows Vista. Unfortunately, Vista requires the driver to be "signed". Is there a signed driver out there or does anyone know how to circumvent the problem?

Thanks,
bjth

bjth,

Does Vista force the driver to not work or can you just ignore the message?

Some of us are trying to dig into what it takes to support Vista in general, not tied to a specific piece of silicon or software.

Best we can tell... Driver signing is another way for Microsoft to pocket some more money. It comes across as a tax on small software companies. As you have to jump through various hoops and pay fees to get things "signed."

I would definitely welcome more opinions on this topic from others on the board.

Vista seems like it is going to be a real pain for all the small guys who are trying to do embedded applications.

-JWW

IIRC only Vista 64 bit requires signed drivers to work correctly. Other versions just require Admin access to install unsigned drivers. This link might explain it better... http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/drvsign/drvsign.mspx

Hope it helps!
