Replacement for MC68EC000FN16

Hi,

Greeting for the day.

I am Sridhar Ravilla from Honeywell Technologies Bangalore, India.

We are looking for the replacement for the Micro processor part Number MC68EC000FN16.

Is there any drop in replacement with pin compatibility for the above part. If no available suggest the same family and series part with different pin formats.

Hi,

Part MC68EC000FN16 was EOL for almost 10 years and we do not provide any drop-in replacement part for it. Actually for the MC68ECxxx family, we really do not have any recommend nor any replacement. If you really concern on the drop-in, the closest would be a ColdFire V1 device: ColdFire V1 MCUs|32-bit Microcontrollers|NXP

Wouldn't the MC68SEC000AA16 be more suited than a Coldfire? It's not a drop-in replacement as it's a QFP64 rather than a PLCC68 but it should be object code compatable. The footprint on the PCB is going to have to change anyway.

The MC68SEC000AA16 is a good recommendation, but is "Not Recommended for New Design". It has a "10 Year Application Life", but doesn't show up on either of the "Longevity" pages:

Product Longevity: NXP (formerly Freescale) pr|NXP

Product Longevity - Archived|NXP

The above pages show parts with 10 year lifetimes made as far back as 2010. The Reference Manual for that part is dated 1996, so it is now ten years beyond its ten year lifetime!

If you must, I'd suggest you do a big "last time buy".

Yes, you are correct. Part MC68SEC000AA16 is really not recommended for new desgin, nor the replacement.
