How to properly create and configure a project for the R52 core with S32Z2

Hi Team,

I am working with the S32Z280 development board and I installed RTD version 2.0.1.

I successfully ran the Dio_Example_S32Z2XX_SMU example project (D12 LED blinking) on the M33 core.

Next, I tried to blink the same D12 LED using the R52 core. I created a new R52 project and configured the same LED pin based on the example project. The project builds successfully without any errors.

However, after flashing, the LED is not blinking.

Currently, I do not have a debugger. So I am generating the flash image using IVT and flashing it through the J119 USB port.

Could anyone help me understand:

How to properly create and configure a project for the R52 core?
Are there any additional startup or clock configurations required for R52?
Is there any specific procedure for generating and flashing the R52 image using IVT?

Any guidance or reference examples would be very helpful.

Thanks for your post.

Currently in the default setup, many S32E examples are configured to run on the Cortex-R52 cores, while S32Z examples are designed to run on the SMU (System Manager Unit) core.

My colleague once wrote the following reference document, which provided the method for changing the default R52 booting to SMU case, it is just an opposite example which would be valuable reference for your requirement.

Thank you for the information.

I would like to confirm one point — does the S32Z2 board support running applications on the R52 core directly, or is additional boot configuration required to start the R52 core?

Currently, I can run the SMU/M33 example successfully, but my R52 LED blink project is not running after flashing.

Yes, I am able to confirm that the S32Z2 board support running applications from the R52 cores.

the correct procedure to boot and run an R52 application on the S32Z2 board,
whether any special boot configuration or startup settings are required,

Thanks for your reply.

1. As mentioned, there is not a formal example existed for your reference, since the default example which match your requirement is done by booting from SMU.(Dio_Example_S32Z2XX_SMU)

2. For creating a similar project booting from R52, you may firstly creating a S32 application project, and then add/set the corresponding modules needed referencing the Dio_Example_S32Z2XX_SMU.

3. Once finished, creating IVT based binary with the following guide, and then flashed it to the board to have a try.

4. I am preparing writing a document to introduce the details, but it may take some time due internal writing/review process
