Hello,

I’m currently using the S32K324 EVB board, and I’m trying to use the RTC module.

When I configure the RTC to use SXOSC (32.768 kHz external crystal oscillator) as the clock source,
the SXOSC_STAT register remains 0x00000000 — it never shows the “ready” status.

So I’d like to confirm the following:

Do I need to purchase and solder an external 32.768 kHz crystal on the EVB to use SXOSC,
or is it already available on the board and just needs to be enabled in software (MC_ME / Clock_Ip)?

Currently, it seems that no crystal is mounted at the Y1 position on my EVB.
If the external component is required, could you please let me know the recommended crystal specifications
(frequency, load capacitance, package size, etc.) for the S32K324?

Thank you very much for your support.

Hi @minjaekang99,

To quote my colleague from another community post (Solved: S32K3X4EVB-Q172 32768Hz clock<LI-EMOJI id="lia_disappointed-face" title=""></LI-EMOJI>

"There is no 32.768 kHz crystal included on the S32K3x4EVB-Q172 or the S32K3X4EVB-T172 evaluation boards; although the crystal is present on boards such as the S32K344-WB, S32K3-T-BOX, S32K3X8EVB-Q289 and S32K388EVB-Q289 - DNP resistors must be soldered on the latter to connect the crystal to the chip."

You can use the external oscillator from these other boards as reference. For recommendations, you can look at the BOM.xlsx file included in the design files.

Best regards,
Julián
