If you want to stay with an NXP-verified kernel, consider moving to the most
recent Automotive BSP which supports two kernel versions, 5.4 and 5.10.
Use Automotive Software Package Manager to obtain the installation package.
See Automotive BSP User Manual which is part of the same installation package
for installation and usage instructions.

As of Linux kernel version 5.1, there are no BSPs for your development board
built around it. If you are to move to that kernel by yourself, what you
can start with is generic Yocto documentation discussing kernel-related
tasks:

https://docs.yoctoproject.org/dev-manual/common-tasks.html#adding-a-kernel-for-the-machine

https://docs.yoctoproject.org/kernel-dev/index.html

Note that we can provide a very limited support to non-SDK kernels.

Best Regards,
Platon
