S32G3 RDB3 GMAC0 SGMII test

Hi,

I am currently working with bsp41 and attempting to configure GMAC0 to operate in SGMII mode on the S32G-RDB3 board. Based on the RDB3 Ethernet Enablement Guide, I understand that I need to configure the following:

GMAC0: SGMII
PFE_MAC0, PFE_MAC1, PFE_MAC2: SGMII, SGMII, and RGMII respectively, as outlined in Example 4 of the guide.

I've already made the necessary changes in U-Boot and the Device Tree. However, I'm uncertain about the role of the DIP switches and the SJA1110 firmware. Specifically:

Do I need to modify both the DIP switch settings and the SJA1110 firmware?
Can I configure the switch to SGMII mode through DIP switches alone, or is a firmware change mandatory?

I’m also unable to locate the P1-1G-P4-1G.bin file mentioned in the documentation. Can you advise on how to proceed with configuring the SJA1110 switch ports for SGMII mode, or provide guidance on obtaining the correct firmware file?

Any insights or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Answering to your questions:

The dip switch (SW17) is used to multiplex the output of the SerDes

You can see that if you follow the signals of the switch in the schematic, available in the Design Files section of the S32G-VNP-RDB3 Product page.

Therefore you need to modify the DIP switch to have the expected behavior.

The SAJ1110 binary can be flashed from linux as the RDB3 Ethernet Enablement Guide indicates

As described in the Ethernet enablement guide, you can compile the binary yourself, but you can also find it in the GoldVIP package with the following configuration [GoldVIP User manua, Rev. 1.12.0 — 18 June 2024]:

You can download this package in the AUTO-SW-PACKAGE-MANAGER :

You can find the user manual in the documentation folder and the SJA1110 binaries in the binaries folder.

It is also possible to download the SJA1110 firmware by flashing and running the fsl-image-goldvip-s32g399ardb3.sdcard image in your RDB3

If you flash and run the GoldVIP image for the RDB3, also available in the binaries folder, you can see that the firmware will be flashed in the SJA1110 in the bootlogs

You just need to configure the jumpers as described in the Ethernet enablement guide:

J189: Pin1-2:Short, Pin3-4: Short

With the SDK you can change the configuration of the SJA1110

You can modify the configuration according to your needs if needed, just be aware that an NDA is needed to access the package, as you can probably see if you click the link in step 1 of the Ethernet enablement guide (https://www.nxp.com/document/guide/get-started-with-the-sja1110-evm:GS-SJA1110-EVM) in step 3 of the Get software section.

You can always create a new post if you have trouble when using the SJA1110 SDK with the RDB3 board.
