&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;It can “work” with BYPASS = 0 because the amplifier is being driven.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;It’s better and safer to set BYPASS = 1 when using an external clock on XTAL1 and leaving XTAL2 open.&lt;/P&gt;
