@Harry_Zhang

Hello, I’m attempting to debug the FRDM‑MCXN947 board using the MCUXpresso VS Code extension (v25.11.16) with LinkServer as the debug probe.

My environment is:

Host OS: Windows 11

Guest OS: Windows 11 (VirtualBox VM)

MCUXpresso VS Code extension: 25.11.16

Debug probe: LinkServer

Target board: FRDM‑MCXN947

Problem: When I start a debug session inside the VM, the session fails to launch. The extension is installed correctly, but the debugger does not connect to the target.

Question: Has anyone successfully run LinkServer debugging in this configuration (Windows 11 host + Windows 11 guest in VirtualBox)? Are there known limitations or required configuration steps for USB passthrough or driver setup in VirtualBox that affect LinkServer?

Thanks for any guidance.

Hi @Peter19

LinkServer requires low-level USB/HID access, but VirtualBox USB passthrough is unstable for HID-class debug probes.

So i think LinkServer debugging rarely works reliably inside VirtualBox.

I think you can try to Debug on the HOST, not the VB
you can use MCUXpresso IDE on Host or MCUXpresso VS Code extension on Host.
