The differential SerDes reference clock inputs are DC-coupled, High-Speed Current Steering Logic (HCSL) compatible. In addition to the HCSL-type clock driver chip, many other low-voltage, differential output driver type clock chips, from various manufacturers, can be used (including LVDS and LVPECL). Please see the nxp app.note AN4311 SerDes Reference Clock Interfacing and HSSI Measurements Recommendations.
