I have the DEMO9S08QG8; It has the MC9S08QG8 microcontroller. Can I use any other microcontroller? Because I need better caractheristics.
Thanks

Hello Katback,

Yes you can although if programming it with Codewarrior you must use a version prior to 6.2 or if you only have 6.2 modify it as shown here.

Hi,

I think I misunderstood you the first time.
Are you saying you want to replace the QG8 on the demoboard with another device on the demoboard?

If this is the question, then the answer is "most probably no". It would have to be another S08 from freescale for sure. Most likely it would need some pin adaption to get it to match up with the QG8 socket.

The QG8 demoboard is just a BDM adapter for programming/debugging and a few switches and leds and serial port hardware. What more are you wanting that would still be supported by this minimal external hardware?

You can only use a QG8 or QG4 with that demo board (whether in the 16-pin socket or using the 6-pin BDM interface on the DEMO board, and the BDM interface apparently isn't guaranteed, though it worked for me). To program any other Freescale microcontroller you need to either get the specific DEMO board for it or get the USB Multilink Interface.

Using another microcontroller may also require a newer version of Codewarrior, but the newer version will of course still work for the QG8.

There's more info and details in this thead:
http://forums.freescale.com/freescale/board/message?board.id=8BITCOMM&thread.id=11918
