JB16 USB Serial port example.

I've been asked a question and I would like to see if anyone here knows an answer better than "maybe" (which would be my answer).

The only USB serial port example project I can find is for a JW part, that supports USB 2.0, where as the JB part only supports 1.1, so I can't say it that code will work on the JB part.
Thats AN3153 Using the Full-Speed USB Module on MC68HC908JW32 which has a serial port example.
The is also AN2399, which had a HId driver for the JB16.

- Has anyone tried make a JB a serial port. Will the JW32 code work on the JB16?

- Is there an example closer to the JB hardware that I have not found?

Well there is no way that the JW code is going to work on the JB.
The USB registers are all different.

The ironic thing is the JW does not even have an SCI - the code uses a software UART.

And yet I can't find a USB seriall project for the JB...

I wrote a post that I then deleted because I thought was out of subject. I initially missed the "serial" part.

However, you might be able to extract something interesting from a USB cordless mouse and keyboard based on JB.

Dear Jim,

Maybe if you could tell the question, we could provide you an answer.

I do have an interesting question: why the JW32 does not boot on USB? You have to use the "super-ultra-high-speed" MON08 interface to enter a bootloader and then after you're ok in using USB.
The funny part is that the older USB parts e.g JB08 did boot on USB.

Well thank you all.

rocco's thread pretty much tells it all - not worth pursuing.

The JB16 can't handle a real serial port, which needs to be able to run at at least 115200 baud.

And as celsoken pointed out these are MON08 chips, and I have not intention of getting into that.

Also, in November the JM08 line will be introduced, which will be a whole new line of low end USB chips.

Hopfully, sample code will be provided for this family.

Jim, where did you hear about the JM08? Can Alban verify this part's existence?

I'm about to "get into that" with the JB8 on a low-speed USB project and would rather stick with the HCS08 line of parts if there were a USB offering. MON08 isn't my favorite part for development either.

The kicker is unless you sign an NDA, no specs until November...at least last I checked.
You might enter a sales service request and see if the spec is available now.

Indeed removed. I told the FTF organisation that they should do some housekeeping.
As they said it's the first time in 3 years it happened, I sent them all the links of their presentations that are in violation.
I didn't enjoy this guy shouting at me, especially when he was deeply in the wrong...

Anyway, there was no real description in the presentation linked. I edited the link out.
The presentation was mainly on the ColdFire family and a tutorial on how to start with it.
The reference mentioned was just a "mention" and not a full description.

Also no date was included in that presentation, nor in any other publicly documentation I could find.

Therefore that Applications Engineer is really making a lot of indiscretions. I advise JimDon to tell him to be a bit more professional.

Of course, if I can help you with anything. I'd be glad to do it within my possibilities. It goes without saying that NDA is the proper way to get information ahead of launch...

Yes, there were no details on the chip I guess I am not supposed to talk about.

I tried to sign an NDA, but the field engineer never bothered to get back to me.

Not complaining really, just explaining, but they really were not very helpful.

Compare that to TI, I got some samples from thier web site, and they had reps all over me.

I had submitted a service request to sales and they mentioned November, but who knows.

You would think FSL would be a bit more eager to help out interested customers.

I am going to an FSL seminar in October, so I will see what I can find out....
