Hi,

I would like to use the MC33794 electric field sensor chip to sense electric fields without using its electric field generation facility. Is this possible?

I.E.: My application generates a strong electric field and being able to directly and accuratly measure this will greatly simplify control.

If the MC33794 cannot be used in this manner, can anyone please suggest a sensor/chip that I could use.

Cheers,

Ben

Hi Ben.
Since the MC33794 operates by sensing (externally induced) variations in an electric field THAT IT CREATES I think its unlikely that it can be used as you wish.

However, I'm not sure that you should throw away the MC33794 yet; if you use it in its intended manner it may well react to your external E-field.

Except for Hall-Effect (magnetic field) sensors I can't think of a "packaged" solution for E-field sensing.

ron

Hi,

I want to use MC33794 for steam leak detection. Is it possible to use..?? Also i want to implement it for some gas leak detection. How the electrode design would be...??

Thanks for any suggestions....
