Hi Johnny,

You mentioned about skipping the HC08 and going straight to a S08.

I would STRONGLY recommend this to anyone starting out, as long as you can afford an S08 demoboard, just forget that the HC08 ever existed. You will NEVER regret this move.

Get a demoboard with a built in BDM or use an OSBDM with it. Use the latest available Codewarrior.

I bought one of these a few years ago but never played with it 'til now.

It came with CW2.1.1 special edition. Is there an upgrade to a later version, or is 2.1.1 ok?

2.1.1 doesn't show up when I go to "Start", then "Programs". Freescale version 3.1 for the 9S12 shows up, but not 2.1 for HC08.

I can get it to open if I go to the folder that has the demo programs, then click on one of them.

What is the purpose of the unpopulated U4? Is there an application note that shows how to convert the DEMO board to allow programming of fresh chips?

I noticed Digikey and Mouser are dropping these kits and some of the HC08 chips. Better to switch to HCS08 than play with this?

Solved one problem.

Metrowerks CW08V2.1 shows up. Didn't look far enough.

I was looking for 2.1 under "Metrowerks CodeWarrior", but it's under "Metrowerks".

Still would like to know the purpose of unpopulated U4 and can the board be modified to program production chips?
