Finally tried it out, I just installed 5 pins the 6 pin BDM header onto the DEMOQE board (I didn't install a pin in the VDD line) and it programmed and debugged my protoboard built QG8 prototype just fine.

This is a good way to get what seems to be the full functionality of the PE BDM pod at about half the cost. The only thing in my mind that you are lacking is a nice case.

I bought one of the DEMOQE boards made by P&E and distributed by mouser et. al for $50.

My question is, if I install the 6-pin header and use this board to program external target boards, will it support voltage level translation for, lets say a AW32 processor running at 5V. The QE board runs at roughly 3 Volts, but it does have a battery to power the board from, so I would assume this would mean that the USB-BDM that is on the backside of the board would have to have some kind of level translation to allow the variable voltage. I'm just not sure how high this can go.

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Aaron

I have it used to to debug +5 V hcs12 boards. So I would say yes. Needless to say to NOT connect the VSS pin.

It also can not program the KA series, because it needs 12v vpp. Supposedly it is also not as well protected as the USB Mulitlink.
