Sebastien,

If you scroll down to Evaluation/Development boards and systems from the link you referenced pick a hardware board that suites your needs:
http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MC9S12GC32#tools

I've used the Axiom MC9S12C32 Evaluation board before:
http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=M68EVB912C32&parentCode=MC9S12GC32

This board is a full blown evaluation board for the C-family, which is identical to the GC-family, but includes CAN. GC has no CAN.

The only thing with this board is that you have to buy a standalone BDM cable to communicate to the device and program/erase. I recommend the following BDM cable:

http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=USBMULTILINKBDM&parentCode=MC9S12GC32

Now you need software, I recommend you download the Special Edition version of CodeWarrior for HCS12 V4.5. This release supports the GC family and the USB BDM cable from P&E that I referenced above. You can download this software at the link below:

http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=CWS-H12-STDED-CX&parentCode=MC9S12GC32

I hope this all helps.

Hi folks,

I'm new to micro controllers in general and specifically the HC12 family.

I have a project to port about 50 pages of C-code developed for the MC68HC711E20 to a newer micro. Freescale support have advised me that the MC9S12GC is a suitable replacement for this device.

So my question is: What software and hardware tools (i.e. evaluation/programming boards) do I need? - I realise this is a broad question but there is a myriad of different items of hardware and software listed here:

http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MC9S12GC32#tools

and being a n00b I'm not sure where to start.

Thanks in advance for your help.

- Sebastien.

There is a _very_ broad range of tools.

This question has been discussed many times in the 68HC12 mailing list. Many tool manufacturers are present there.

Use 68HC12-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to join and/or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/68HC12/ to read the archives.

Oliver
