I am thinking of a new product that uses two S12XE. One MCU will be a slave and read sensors. The main MCU would either request the information from the slave or receive it when is ready. I have done this in the past using SCI. I am looking at using CAN Bus to communicate. Do I still need CAN transceivers, or can I just connect the low level signals from the CAN pins.

I am open to ideas using some other method.

Ray.

Hi Ray,

Edward is right.

You don’t need transceivers. For short length communication, diodes and pull-up are sufficient solution.

Here is simply scheme for connection of four CAN modules together at DEMO9S12XEP100 board as inspiration for you:

Tested and proved.

I hope it helps you.

Have a great day,
RadekS

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: If this post answers your question, please click the Correct Answer button.
