Using BLDC kit as PMSM kit? (MTRDEVKSPNK144 and MTRDEVKSBNK144)

Question to dumitru-daniel.popa, or anyone else whom might now:

Regarding the two available motor kits:

(1) MTRDEVKSPNK144 "Kit for PMSM 3-Phase motors"
(2) MTRDEVKSBNK144 "Kit for sensorless BLDC"

I have purchased the "sensorless BLDC"-kit (MTRDEVKSBNK144), can I use it as a PMSM kit also? (I read there were no hardware difference between them)? If so, what do I need to do to modify it?

Update/Edit:

Specifically, what I want to know is, can I use the BLDC kit to do the PMSM workshop?

And by the PMSM workshop I mean this set of tutorials: https://community.nxp.com/thread/464336

Hi Hans,

Yes, you can change this configuration by yourself, but you must flash the binary file into the MCU.

Best regards,

Adrian

Hi  Hans Sigmunsson,

You can use the BLDC kit to do the PMSM workshop.

If you have other questions, please let us know.

Best regards,

Adrian

Hi Adrian

First of all: thank you for your reply, and also thanks to Constantin

Regarding the BLDC kit for the PMSM workshop, I have the following questions:

1. Do the kits have the same motor? If so, is it a PMSM motor (with sinusodial back EMF)?

2. Are there any differences at all between the two kits, that would affect the following of the course?

3. Are there any options/settings (whether physical or in software) that I need to adjust in order to use the BLDC kit for the PMSM workshop?

Thanks!

Best regards

Hi Hans,

Please take a look here to find some answers: https://community.nxp.com/message/1220433#comment-1221417 .

The motor is BLDC type (trapezoidal BEMF waveform) for both kits.

Best regards,

Adrian

Hi Adrian

Regarding this statement (in the post you linked to):

There are 2 configuration differences when you order one or the other - depending on which one you order it comes pre-configured from factory with:

  1. The J9/J10 and J11 are set for measuring the phase currents (PMSM) or phase backEMF (BLDC)
  2. The MCU flash is pre-loaded with the PMSM or BLDC application code

Can I change these configuration differences myself, thus turning the BLDC kit into the PMSM kit?

Thanks
